Let me start by saying that there are a great many dear and true christians at RSBC, many individuals and families wherein I see the image of Christ reflected quite clearly and many with a heart for the service of God and the local body at Randolph St.

That said, I would warn that the leadership of this church is far more committed to doctrinal orthodoxy of a Sproulian Reformist flavor than to honest Biblical exegesis and treats any questions of how this orthodoxy might stack up with the Biblical text as an affront to their authority and their self-appointed power as the ruling party. When once I asked a question of one of the elders regarding a particular theological topic and how what they had just taught as unquestionable truth to a Sunday school class squared with the Bible, he literally responded without reference to the question I had asked that his view "was the same view as Sproul, Ryle, etc. and therefore the same view as held by Calvin, Edwards, etc." and who was I to question that. (Which showed where his actual basis for authority lay and also his own lack of knowledge of his own proclamations as Calvin, Edwards, etc. never espoused what he was claiming). He then felt the need to bring the matter to the other eldership who affirmed his response and told me to stop being difficult to their authority and charged me not to talk to others of the congregation about the whole matter.

Unfortunately, all of this is quite subtle - it took me over a year of attending before I recognized what I was seeing. The pulpit and leadership gives highest lipservice to Biblical authority and value and proclaims the value of individual study. However, in practice it seeks to provide every filter of their Sproulian Reformist ideology for any study of Scripture. Those who do not go along with the party line tend to dissappear or be marginalized out of any central service within the church.

So, to any who would consider being a part of the fellowship of Randolph Street - I hope that you will consider doing so. Whether you tend toward views that are "Reformed" or "Arminian" or some other systematic, the congregation desperately needs those who will filter theological systems through the Bible and not vice versa. And I must warn of the potential cost - in retrospect I am still discovering the depth of my own hurt from the experience and still healing from the wounds.

  • Great fellowship centered around biblical truth. The elders there are not afraid to answer the hard questions with compassion and scriptural backing. Highly recommended if you are looking for a bible believing church!

  • Wonderful family friendly church welcomes children and all ages. Few texts summarize their mission better than Ephesians 3:21 “To Him be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” Their passion is that God would cause His glory & supremacy to echo through these mountains and valleys once again. Adapted from website, but I couldn't say it better.

  • The Bible is central, the preaching expository, and the worship God-centered. There is a strong mission to see the Gospel spread to the ends of the earth. When I first came, I thought the people were really welcoming and friendly. Although as a member I may be biased, but God is glorified by this church!
